Love needs Action

By: Neil HartEverything that God has done for you and me has been centered on His great love for us: God sending a little baby into the world who would become our savior, and then of course, Jesus dying on the cross to set us free.If God simply said He loved us, but there were no actions, we would not experience His love.Love needs action.1 John 3: 17, 18But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? 18Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.1 John 4:1616So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.Our love in action draws the presence of God into our lives, but remarkably, it also reveals God to those our action of love is directed towards.I love this quote from mother Theresa:"Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them. So, spread your love everywhere you go."At the Lord’s supper He gave them a new commandment relating to love…To understand its significance we should consider that from the 10 Commandments in Ex 20 the Levites (Jewish priests) had extracted 613 laws from these commands. It was simply not sustainable for any man or woman to live righteously without breaking these laws. The yolk of the law is a heavy one to bear.Jesus simply gave 2 commandments: Love God, love man. Its that simple. He said that these summed up all the others!Earlier on we read about one new commandment that He gave to His disciples too:John 13:34, 35A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”"Many people mistake our work for our vocation. Our vocation is the love of Jesus."Mother TeresaLove needs action!Make a decision now to be love in action.Pray: Jesus help me to be all the you have called us to be, to love especially, like you love.
