CPx in Cape Town equips leaders from Mozambique

By Julianna Jones

This month’s Church Planting Experience training was a huge success in more ways than one. We were able to use this to train and equip leaders in Mozambique who will then contextualize the training and begin hosting their own.

There are five students who attended CPx 1-17 September from Mozambique. AN Mozambique leaders had hoped to host a CPx themselves sometime in the past year, but lockdowns prevented them. So this CPx in Cape Town presented an excellent opportunity for equipping the All Nations Mozambique team. Team leaders Llewellyn and Lizé Oliver came for the CPx, with Llewellyn joining the team from Cape Town putting on the training. He is learning from us how to host a CPx with the goal to host one in Mozambique next year. We are excited for the fruit of this indigenous training that will be birthed as a result of our CPx this year.

We were also so happy to see how the students from Mozambique were equipped in the CPx in Cape Town. One student was Leonor, a longtime team member from AN Mozambique. All Nations Mozambique was established over a decade ago centered on homes for orphans. Although the work focused on meeting practical needs, there was always a desire to engage in discipleship. In recent years, the members of the team there have begun reaching out to the local community, planting small discipleship groups and raising local leaders. Leonor has run the baby homes for years, but is finally ready to be equipped to bring discipleship to her local community and reach across cultures.

We plan to resource and support CPx trainings like this one in Mozambique much more frequently in the future. We are excited to multiply CPxes in this way. But we have heard from our field workers that our Cape Town training is very effective in equipping cross-cultural workers. So we plan to continue hosting a CPx in Cape Town every year, focused on equipping leaders who are being raised up through AN members or contacts.
