Movements to Jesus in Zambia
At All Nations, we believe God uses ordinary people to accomplish the extraordinary. All God asks is that we obey him. And that’s just what All Nations Cape Town member Aaron Mulenga has been doing in Zambia. He started his ministry in 2008 but joined All Nations in 2013 after going through our training in Cape Town. Aaron works to bring discipleship and empowerment to his country. The ministry now spans many projects — skills development, a food program, soccer ministry, and farming to name a few — but the teams who lead it have all been raised up from within the communities where they serve.
“We are just simple young people,” he said, not experts or scholars. Once Aaron went to a judge to submit papers for one of their projects, and he said he remembers the judge laughing. “He was saying, ‘Why this organization — why this ministry of yours — have no big people or old people — you are all young! But the experience you have is even the organization that has … much experienced people!’ I just laughed at him and said, ‘No, it’s because we have an old man called Jesus who is with us and is the one in the driving seat. We are just following him!’”
Aaron, along with his wife Jennipher, has taken the discipleship and church planting he learned at CPx in Cape Town and married it with helping uplift the community. He does this through empowerment projects like a school and feeding scheme, as well as through business initiatives. Raising chicken, making peanut butter, fish farming, and sewing projects are just some of the ways he empowers the people in his community to be self-sustainable. But always throughout these projects, they also learn about how to discover God’s truth and walk in obedience to Jesus together. For example, one ministry grows Irish potatoes. “This is how we evangelize,” Aaron explained. “At the end of the day we gather all the people who are helping here, share the word of God, the Bible study, and we pray together.”
Aaron has reliable people in charge of each aspect of ministry, and he spends his time cultivating a movement. They’ve raised a third generation of leaders who are looking at bringing the Gospel to unreached rural areas of Zambia and to Angola and Congo. They received land in this unreached area and that’s where they are looking to set up a second base, doing their discipleship and training programs in this new area.
This fruit is even more encouraging for the year that we’ve had. “The Lord is making a way for us, despite all the Covid-19. But we have seen the hand of the Lord extending his kingdom on this side.” Aaron said he now focuses his time expanding into new areas, including those of different tribes and languages. He seeks out people of influence there to share the vision of All Nations and the Good News of Jesus. He’s working with five new chiefs right now, learning about their culture and people in order to bring discipleship to these new areas. They also use the Jesus Movie to bring the Gospel to new places.
Aaron’s message to the rest of us: “Don’t worry, we are on the ground and the Lord’s movement is moving and it’s spreading like wildfire.”
